We love interactions, in particular with particles

We 3D printed rheometry tools to investigate the role of boundary roughness on rheometry. Surprisingly, a single penetration depth could be identified to play a role in the interaction between the fluid and the rough surface.

The BSc program “Natuurkunde & Sterrenkunde” (Physics & Astronomy) at VU/UvA has a course called “NSP2” in the Fall. Students in this course, and the teachers, do various observations and sometimes stumble over unexpected things. Old glycerine is one, but funny droplet dynamics in thin film flows are another. Heavy liquids included as well. And can you determine the spectrum shown?

Congratulations! The thesis can be found her.e.

Your drink also has… particles! Then you either love particles and see them everywhere, or you are tipsy. Or both,

MRI is an amazing tool, and here used to study the complex flow behavior of fat dispersions.

The experimental facilities in the Pamplona group are amazing, and were well used by exchange student Bo.

The Particles 2023 was hosted in Milan this year. As always it was good to catch up with colleagues and friends: Chris, Lou, Riccardo, Vanessa, Rouven and many others were there to connect about, yes, particles!
