We love interactions, in particular with particles

Thanks Ken Kamrin for sending me the latest and best text book on solid mechanics!

The BSc program “Natuurkunde & Sterrenkunde” (Physics & Astronomy) at VU/UvA has a course called “NSP2” in the Fall. In this course, students perform various experiments (they choose which to do) among which studying the flow behavior of liquids with Laser Doppler Anemometry (shown). It’s so much fun to perform alignment of the setup and see the tracer particles flow by with the photodetector!

The beautiful city of Athens was the host of the combined AERC/ICR meeting 2024. Julie gave a presentation on the tribology of surfactant solutions.

Colleagues Corentin Coulais and visitor Anton Souslov could also join.

We were kindly welcomed by Aimee Sakes and Cosimo Della Santina at some of the robotics labs at TU Delft. Due to a local storm, some attendees could only join online, but it was a successful meeting nonetheless

The BSc program “Natuurkunde & Sterrenkunde” (Physics & Astronomy) at VU/UvA has a course called “Project” in the last month of the year (June). In this course, students are embedded (as teams) in the various Physics & Astronomy research groups in the Amsterdam area and do a small research project there. They present their work in a final poster presentation, where these pictures were taken. We organize this course together with @ParticleClara. Photo credit: Midas Scheffers / NSA

Together with Emilien Azema, Silke Henkes and Cino Viggiani, we organized a Lorentz Center workshop titled “Getting into Shape“.

Joshua is now 23-24 Fellow at the Netherlands eScience Center. He will collaborate with Luisa Orozco and Stefan Radl to improve a MOOC that brings DEM education to more people.
