The BSc program “Natuurkunde & Sterrenkunde” (Physics & Astronomy) at VU/UvA has a course called “NSP2” in the Fall. In this course, students perform various experiments (they choose which to do) among which studying the flow behavior of liquids with Laser Doppler Anemometry (shown). It’s so much fun to perform alignment of the setup andContinue reading “Getting ready for the Physics & Astronomy Practicum 2”

Hosting CALIPER students and supervisors
The research network CALIPER is coming to an end, but the team is already gearing up to make new collaborations. We had a good time with a lab visit and return to the place where also the CALIPER kick-off was organized, at H401.

Landelijke Practicumdag NNV
ALERT Geomechanics School
The annual ALERT workshop in Aussois was followed by a course in “Advanced Experimental Geomechanics” with Ryan Hurley, Benjy Marks, Joshua Dijksman and Edward Ando. It came with a Github repository and a Zenodo community page to promote open science in the Geomechanics community.
Explaining Soft Condensed Matter
To 2nd and 3rd year UvA physics students is fun. How can microscopic features provide macroscopic mechanical responses? Experimental work can guide the science!
Lorentz Center workshop “Image is Everything”
Discussions are key components of the fabulous workshops organized in Leiden.
